Deb Bruggen (Yonke)

Deb Bruggen (Yonke), 63, of Alma, KS passed away December 8, 2021, with her family by her side.

Deb was born February 12, 1958 in Kansas City, MO to Connie and John Yonke, Jr. She graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 1976 and then attended barber school in Wichita, KS.

After barber school, Deb opened The Country Barber Shop in Alma where she mastered the art of hair styling for many patrons. Later in life, Deb’s love for children led her to become a teacher at HeadStart. While her career path provided her with different opportunities, she ended her career doing what she loved, working with children as a librarian and later as the school secretary at Alma Grade School.

Deb was united in marriage to Dan Meseke June 19, 1982. Together, Dan and Deb had two beautiful daughters whom they loved very much.  After their separation, Deb married Michael Bruggen on January 8, 2003 and they resided in Louisville, KS until Mike’s passing in 2011.

Deb was an avid outdoorsman, she loved fishing and just being outside.  Her love for fishing and riding motorcycles, no doubt, came from her dad. She thoroughly enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson, much to the dismay of her family, for many years.  Deb loved vacationing and spending time on the white sandy beaches of Pensacola, Florida, and indulging in her Uncle Pete’s shrimp boils.  Deb was an organ donor.

Most of all, Deb’s pride and joy were her 7 grandkids and 3 step-grandkids.

She is survived by her daughters Amber Capoun (Ben) of Topeka and Melinda Davidson (Bryan) of Osage City.  Grandkids Keaira, Haleigh, Kiylea, Colbie, Ayva, Kaysen, Kinslee, step-grandkids Kevin, Chandler, Jason. Her mother Connie Yonke of Alma, brothers John Yonke (Dawn) of Alma, Robert Yonke (Angela) of Fort Worth, Texas and sister Judi Michels of St. Mary’s, along with many nieces and nephews and their families.  Deb is preceded in death by her father John Yonke, Jr. of Alma and her husband Michael Bruggen of Louisville.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on December 18, 2021 at 11:30am at the Louisville Cemetery. Following the service, the family ask that you join us for lunch and a Celebration of Life at the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall in Alma, KS from 1:30 – 4:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Deb Bruggen Educational Memorial Fund dedicated to her grandkids. Contributions can be sent in care of Envista Credit Union, 3626 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614.
