Norman Dean “Norm” Herbel, 78, fell asleep in Jesus on Saturday, April 4, 2020 in his home near Abilene, Kansas, from congestive heart failure.
Norm was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Eva Herbel; brothers Charles Herbel of Shaffer, KS; Ray Herbel, of Niles, MI; Dale Herbel of Caldwell, ID, as well as one great-grand son.
Norman was born in Great Bend, Kansas to Harry and Eva (Mohr) Herbel. Norm enjoyed growing up on the family farm, attended Enterprise Academy, Enterprise, KS and graduated from Otis High School, Otis, KS in 1962.
Norm worked in jobs ranging from farming, welding, truck driver, a Licensed Mental Health Technician II at Larned State Hospital & Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, KS, and machine operator at Midco Plastics, Enterprise, KS.
Norm was a faithful member of the Enterprise Seventh-Day Adventist Church and served his Lord wherever possible. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, wood-working- especially making bird houses, and feeders, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved meeting people and visiting with them.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Judy (Altstadt) Herbel; his daughter, Rebecca (Brad) Geubelle of Wichita, KS; his son, Ron (Dulari) Herbel of Wichita, KS; step-sons, Timothy (Linda) Johnston of Clay Center, KS, and Thomas (Jolene) Johnston of Madison, MO; and step-daughter, Beth (Mark) Snyder of Beaver Crossing, NE; a sister, Elsie (Paschal) Herman of Liebenthal, KS; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Leaves numerus nephews and nieces.
Memorial Services will be held at a date TBA later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be sent to Enterprise, Kansas, SDA Church to help provide handicapped bathroom.
Norman will be interred at the Shafer Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, Rush County, KS USA (Corner Ave. L and 350 Road).
