Carl “Gene” Eugene Whitesell

Carl “Gene” Eugene Whitesell, 86 of Scranton, Kansas

Passed away peacefully on Saturday December 7, 2019 at Midland Care, Topeka, Kansas after a short battle with Cancer.
He was born on April 8, 1933 in Waterville, Kansas son of William and Ruby (Henrich) Whitesell.
He married Anne Martin in Topeka, Kansas on Febuary 15, 1958.
Gene as almost everyone knew him served for the United States Navy, before he married Anne and made Topeka home to raise his 6 children and he worked for Herrman’s Excavating as a foreman. When he and Anne retired they moved to “the farm” in Scranton, he loved to hunt, tinker with his tractors, and push down trees with his dozer for firewood to keep them warm through the winters. He never met a stranger, and was a friend to everyone, he would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Gene enjoyed teasing and giving you a hard time especially his grandchildren.  If he wasn’t teasing you, you thought he was mad at you. Gene’s family was his pride and joy.   He enjoyed his grandchildren spoiling them rotten then sending them home.
Preceding him in death are his parents William Whitesell and Ruby Broman, one brother William Whitesell, and a grandson Spencer Whitesell.

6 “Carl “Gene” Eugene Whitesell

  1. Please accept my sympathy and prayers in learning of Gene’s passing. I did not know him but recall he was a foreman at Herrman’s where my Father John Jacobson Sr. worked before his death at the Capitol Bldg. in 1981. May your loving memories and faith sustain you in your time of sorrow.

  2. My father, Clarence Gideon, and myself considered Carl and Anne to be 2 of the nicest and well grounded people we ever dealt with. My father could spend hours talking with Carl and enjoyed every minute.

Cherish the memories as I am confident there are countless ones.

  3. My late father, Marion, lived across the road from Mr. Whitesell. Neighbors enjoyed visiting with Gene. When I was visiting last spring, Gene stopped his pickup to talk about his thoughts about building a fence along part of his property.

My condolences go to his family.

  4. To the Whitesell family . May God comfort your family and give you the strength to get through this time of sorrow . We haven’t seen your family in a number of years since we were your neighbors on Lott street . We think about your family often and remember what a nice family you were !
