Melvin E. Parks, “Mel,” age 69, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2019, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Mel is survived by his three brothers, Gale, Rex, and Mike, his four children, Melvin Jr., Daniel, Matthew, and Christianne, and his four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Amanda, his three sisters, Geraldine, Phillis, and Betty, and his two brothers Herbert Jr. and Gary.

Mel was born on December 20, 1949 to Herbert Sr. and Amanda Parks of Lyon County, growing up in Allen, Kansas with his eight siblings. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the Large Artillery {SW} Unit. After his return, he worked as a meat cutter for several years, first at IBP in Emporia, Kansas and later at Allen Meat Processing.

His children remember him as an adventurous man with a love for fishing, as well as generous, loving, and someone who endured through everything life set in his path.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March, 23rd, at Twin Lakes Foursquare Church at 6905 US-56, Osage City, Kansas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mel’s life.
