Darrel Dean Delk, 92 peacefully passed to his heavenly home on Friday January 4th at his home in Indian Ridge, Meriden, Ks. He was cremated.
He was born June 12, 1926 to Marvin and Lelia Henning Delk at Fillmore, MO. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Bendena High School in Bendena, KS.
He married Mary Lou Johnson on May 22, 1954 in St Joseph, Missouri. They resided for 33 years in St. Joseph, Missouri before retiring to Meriden KS. in 1986. She survives of the home.
Darrel served in the Navy during WWII and retired from the Seabees after 29 years of service.
He has been an active member of Jefferson Assembly of God church since 1986.
He was last employed at Mead Containers in St Joseph where he was a truck driver and was previously employed at Swift and Company till they closed.
He was a Boy Scout Explorer Advisor and was member of Mic-O-Say tribe for years. He was a founding member of the Tanglefoot Square Dance Club and was a member of the Footnotes Round Dance Club. He enjoyed playing bridge with the bridge club in Oskaloosa. He was an avid walker and cherished his time spent with his family and his monthly dinner/ game night group.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include; his sons, David Delk Sr, Dean Delk (Cathy), and daughter Cheryl Peters (Jack, deceased) 11 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family was one of his greatest joys in life.
A Memorial service will be Thursday, January 10, 2019. The service will be at 10:30 with family visitation one hour prior to the service at Jefferson Assembly of God Church, 8640 Clark Rd, Meriden, KS
