Stuart (Stu) Craig Horn

Stuart (Stu) Craig Horn, 61, of Topeka, Ks passed away November 7th, 2018. He was born in Topeka on April 17, 1957 to Leona June Strickland Horn and Billy Dean Horn.

Stu is survived by daughter Shawna Horn (James Newman IV), grandson James Newman V , granddaughters Marlie and Kayla; brother Greg Horn (Melissa), sisters Connie Brunton (Bryce) and Cindy Horn (Paul Sodamann); niece Jessica Barry(John) and great niece Alex; nephews Jared Brunton (Wendy) and great niece Harper, Tyler Horn (Ema) and Trevor Horn.

He is now joined with his loving parents who preceded him in death. Stu grew up in Topeka. As a young adult he took to the road on his Harley and ended up in California where he lived for the next 16 years. Many years as a truck driver enabled him to see lots of the country and find all the good diners. He started his family in California and returned to Kansas in 1994.

Fishing was a favorite activity of his and he spent much time in the sloughs of San Francisco Bay area trying to hook those big sturgeon. Stu loved being in nature and hunting and just driving around with his daughter on country roads looking for deer when she was younger. Recently, watching his grandson race at Heartland BMX was a highlight that he always looked forward to attending.

He was a unique soul who had special insights, very strong opinions and not governed by convention.

His daughter and grandchildren were the loves of his life and family was number one priority. He will be missed and remembered by many.

A remembrance gathering for family and friends will be held on November 21st at Lake Shawnee Shelter #3 from 11am til 2pm.

7 “Stuart (Stu) Craig Horn

  1. Shawna, your dad loved you very much. When you were born, your dad was very proud of you. Always remember the good times. Make sure to tell Marlie about your dad.

  2. Stu was one that I always enjoy the conversations and company of. You could always hear him before you could see him. I wish now would have stopped and visited More as I drove down Gage rather than honking and throwing an arm out the window to say hey. My thoughts and prayer go to the family.

  3. Our families go back to the 60’s. We have survived tornado and heartache, friendships and memories. Stu has joined Bill and June. Our Love,Sympathy, and Prayers go to the surviving family and loved ones. Earle & Elaine McRae, Debbie McRae Roth, Bruce & Laurie McRae, and Brian McRae
